During his teen years, Waring, his brother Tom (né Thomas Lincoln Waring; –), and their friend Poley McClintock founded the Waring-McClintock Snap Orchestra, which evolved into Fred Waring's Banjo Orchestra. The band often played at fraternity parties, proms.
